I respect Akufo-Addo for his values, principles – Rawlings

Former President, Jerry John Rawlings says Ghana is fortunate to have Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as President under the current government.

According to him, the president’s values and principles stand out as his most admired attributes, contrary to suggestions of other persons.

He further pledged commitment to supporting the president with prayers to ensure his earnest vision to fight corruption is attained.

“We are very fortunate also that somebody like Nana Akufo-Addo has emerged over here. People think I like that man to high heavens no, but I respect him for certain values and principles. And I will continue to pray and I sincerely hope that he stays the track and he will devout possibly even 30 percent of his time 70 percent for the development projects etc but at least 25 to 30 percent. He would probably need more than that to fight corruption and corruptible tendencies,” he said.

This follows a similar commendation by former First National Vice-Chairperson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to Anita Desoso, Mr. Akufo-Addo’s love for his people was demonstrated in his choice to refrain from pursuing a review of a Supreme Court ruling which upheld the EC’s declaration of John Mahama as the duly elected president of the republic in 2012.

“In 2012 he said he wasn’t going to go for review in their party office. He could have gone but he insisted he wouldn’t go. I was with Otiko Djaba when he told me at their party office, that Anita, I won’t go for this review. So when I realized he really didn’t go just as he told me, then I realised Nana Addo has a good heart. Even when the chiefs spoke to him, he said he has left it everything behind,” she said on Accra based Power FM.
