A Ghanaian police inspector accused of using his service pistol to fatally shoot his girlfriend in Kumasi has denied any intention to kill her.
Inspector Ahmed Twumasi broke down in tears as he told the Asokore Mampong District Court that only God knows what happened on the day of the incident.
The victim, 26-year-old Victoria Dapaah, was allegedly shot multiple times by Twumasi, who demanded a refund of GHS 5,000 ($850) he had paid her to settle an issue between them in the presence of a female friend.
During the court proceedings, relatives of the deceased were reported to have broken down in tears as details of the case were read out.
Some of them threatened to confront the accused, who was whisked away by security after the hearing.
