GhMediaHubNene Okukrubuor Tei Kwesi Agyemang V, the Chief of Dodowa in the Shia Traditional Council, has refuted claims that there is a shortage of virgins for the Dipo rite, a traditional ceremony celebrated by the Shai and Krobo groups in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
According to the Chief, the statement suggesting a lack of virgins for the rite is baseless and not supported by facts. He clarified that in his tribe alone, approximately 100 virgin girls participate in the rite every year, and the ceremony is carried out successfully.
Nene Okukrubuor Tei Kwesi Agyemang V estimated that across the Dangme groups, which include eight different communities, around 800 to 1,000 girls partake in the Dipo rite.
The Chief demanded that all news portals that published the “fake” news regarding the shortage of virgins issue issue a retraction and offer an apology for spreading false information.
