According to Tosin Ajirire, a senior journalist with the Nigerian Sun Newspaper, the main goal of the Islamic organization founded in Nigeria that claimed to be supporting Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s candidacy for vice president of Ghana is to bring together the leaders of northern Nigeria.
On July 19, he remarked, “This group was formed to achieve unity among leaders of northern origin, to achieve unity and establish progress in the northern region; that is just what the group is for in Nigeria.” He was speaking on News 360 on TV3.
When asked if the organization had ever supported political parties, Ajirire responded, “No. Although some of their members can do so, they cannot keep an underground political party.
They cannot claim to be sponsoring a political party because that is against Nigerian law, but they may provide money collectively to individual political figures who are not parties.
