Opinion: Don’t push the blame to Nana Addo’s Free SHS; PTA and CSO are also failing our Youth In High Schools

President Akufo-Addo has urged final year students and maiden beneficiaries of his flagship Free Senior High School programme to make him proud by passing decisively, their upcoming final exams scheduled for May and June 2020 but what are we seeing?

“final year students, you have a big responsibility to make sure that your grades and examination results are positive and exemplary. Make good use of the sets of past questions and answer booklets procured from the West Africa Examination Council to help you in your studies.”, he said

Several viral videos from girls in SHS have raised alarming signal as to what could be the possible cause of this insanity in our senior high schools.

While others think the free SHS is the cause of this unnecessary freedom even in the boarding houses it would be unfair to make such judgments from a yet promising policy that relieves parents from financial headaches.

Teachers are not able to outsmart students in search of digital devices such as Mobile Phones and same with parents before they leave home to school.

Its a shared responsibility of parents and school administration to have our future leaders under intense checks and balances without infringing on their rights or freedoms.

Students should condemn the few bad ones who are destroying the image of the masses by reporting to school authorities as they see such unethical behaviour.

Access to media contents which are even adult content has played a major role in their behaviour traits. Exposing them to both local and international influencers who twerk, say profanity etc get some of these girls to take them as mentors.

Civil Society Organizations should not only attack GES or the School heads when such students are punished but rather help organize programmes that will educate our future leaders so we don’t loose our cultural heritage.
