The flagbearer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama says he is consulting with the party structures to announce his running mate for the December election soon.
“Following the easing of restrictions, I have requested our functional executive committee to arrange a meeting of the Council of Elders and the National Executive Committee (NEC) to finalise my constitutional obligation to consult these bodies on the choice of my running mate. We have also agreed on our choice of the 2020 campaign team and will announce this shortly. Our manifesto committee is also wrapping up its work and we expect to launch our 2020 manifesto in August,” the former president said in a digital conversation with Ghanaians on Facebook on Thursday, June 18, 2020.
Mr Mahama has come under lots of pressure to name his running mate with six months left to the main election this year.
Earlier this week, the first Vice-Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Michael Omare Wadie told Kwabena Prah Jnr on the Ghana Yensom show on Accra 100.5FM on Tuesday, 16 June 2020 that Mr Mahama was struggling to get someone to partner him for this year’s election.“
As we speak, Mr Mahama has no message going into this year’s elections. What is his message? He doesn’t have any message and he is also struggling to even get a running mate.”
Meanwhile, in an earlier Facebook Live with Ghanaians, Mr Mahama explained that there was no need announcing a running mate when the nation’s attention was on the fight against COVID-19.
