Instead, “Snapshots of the Mathematics (Core) 2 Paper were posted on social media platforms after the release of the paper from WAEC Strong Room,” it said.
It, therefore, denied mention of ‘leakage’ in an interview its Head of National Office had with the Daily Graphic as captured in the Wednesday, August 20, 2020 edition of the newspaper.
The story had the headline, “Core Maths 2 leaked: Investigations underway – WAEC”.
Explanation
In its clarification, the WAEC made mention of paragraph one of the story which stated that “the West African Examination Council (WAEC) has admitted that one of the papers in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) leaked minutes before it was written”.
“The council wishes to state categorically that in the interview granted by the Head of National Office (HNO), Mrs Wendy E. Addy, to the Daily Graphic it did not admit that one of the papers in the ongoing WASSCE leaked minutes before it was written.
“In line with the press release issued on Wednesday, August 19, 2020, the HNO clearly stated that snapshots of the Mathematics (Core) 2 Paper were posted on social media platforms after the release of the paper from WAEC Strong Room,” a rejoinder signed and issued by the Head, Public Affairs, Mrs Agnes Teye-Cudjoe, explained.
It said considering the fact that the HNO granted an exclusive interview to the Daily Graphic, “the council is concerned about the misleading caption and sections of the story which contradicted the press statement issued, a copy of which was given to your reporter.”
“We would be grateful if you would set the records straight as your headline and sections of the story cast doubts on the integrity of the HNO and the council,” the statement concluded.
