We’ve the right to punish you- court tells Ken Agyapong; adjourns case to Sep. 25

Assin Central Member of Parliament’s contempt case has been adjourned to September 25 2020, to allow for his lawyers to respond to charges against him.

Assin Central Member of Parliament on Friday was present in court in response to him been summoned for contempt of court.

The Lawmaker appeared in Court thirty minutes earlier with his lawyers including Kwame Gyan, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Ralph Agyapong, and Yaw Akrasi Sarpong.

The court said its attention has been drawn to the Supreme Court case filed but there has not been any orders from the Supreme Court for him to stop the case.

The court also indicated that it has the right to sit on the contempt charges filed against the maverick politician.

Lawyers of Keneday Agyapong led by Kwame Gyan argued that, the returned date at the Supreme Court is October 13, 2020.

But the court said it cannot wait for a whole month to dispense with justice and said it was going to deal with the matter until the Supreme Court determines otherwise.

He said the contemnor and his lawyers cannot just file processes to frustrate the court in dispensing with justice.

The court has, however, adjourned the case to Friday October 25 for the lawyers to make legal argument on the matter.

Kennedy Agyapong is standing trial for contempt of court after he threatened to deal with a Judge for issuing an interlocutory injunction in a land dispute he is involved in.
