Three burnt to death after truck collides with tricycle at Anloga Junction

Three people including the rider of rickshaw popularly known as pragya were on Thursday night burnt beyond recognition after colliding with a loaded truck at Anloga Junction in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

The truck is said to have failed its brake and dragged the rickshaw for a distance before catching fire.

The Hyundai mighty truck loaded with goods travelling from the Tech direction towards Adum failed brake when it got to Oforikrom and in the process run into four mini buses and a taxi cab before crashing into the rickshaw.

The burnt bodies have since been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital while three people including the driver of the truck who sustained injuries, have been sent to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Hospital for treatment.

Confirmation

Confirming the incident to the Daily Graphic, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transportation Directorate (MTTD), Superintendent Emmanuel Adu Boahen,  said the incident occurred around 7: 50 pm.

He said the driver, who has been identified as Alidu Mohammed, in charge of the truck with registration number GC 3897-20,  while descending towards the Anloga junction intersection, allegedly failed brake and run into the vehicles.

He said the rickshaw, which was caught beneath the truck, with all occupants were dragged for a distance “and in the process, the tricycle caught fire and the rider together with two occupants got burnt and died on the spot.”

He said the deceased were two adult males and an adult female whose remains have since been sent to KATH for preservation and autopsy.

He said the deceased were to be identified.
