GhMediaHubAIESEC is a global platform for young people to develop their leadership potential through practical experiences of many kinds, including internships.
Mavis Akuoko, a graduate of the University of Ghana – Legon shares an intriguing journey with AIESEC whiles on campus.
“Growing up I always saw myself as a shy girl who limited herself. Yes, I wanted to give back to society but the question was “HOW”?
I happen to chance by an AIESEC flyer on a class page in my second year and I just took the opportunity to apply for a volunteer project. For some reason, I just thought it was one of those things and there was no chance of traveling. I got contacted and the rest was mind-blowing.
Someone might ask, “why did you opt for an African country?” Well, I knew I wanted to make an impact and develop myself. Let go of that shyness and become a better version of myself. I wanted my impact to be felt so I decided to start from my continent.
Believe it or not, my exchange experience in Kenya and Ivory Coast has really shaped me into the kind of woman I always dreamt of becoming. Thanks to my volunteer experience, I have been able to expand my network and improve my public speaking and presentation skills and also, and I consider myself a world citizen. ”
This is the time to create an impact and be seen. Volunteer with AIESEC and develop yourself.
