Prez Akufo-Addo to appoint a new Chief Justice

Multiple sources have reported that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo plans to nominate Justice Gertrude Araba Esabaa Torkornoo, a current Supreme Court Justice, to replace Justice Kwasi Anin Yeboah as the next Chief Justice of Ghana.

The Council of State has reportedly given their approval for the nomination, and the President is expected to send her name to Parliament for approval.

If confirmed, Justice Torkornoo will be the third woman to hold the position of Chief Justice in Ghana, following Justices Georgina Theodora Wood and Sophia Akuffo.

Additionally, Justice Torkornoo would become President Akufo-Addo’s third appointment to the position of Chief Justice during his tenure as President.
