GhMediaHubThe Ghanaian Times has learned that the nine fishermen who went missing during a fishing expedition off the coast of Ngyiresia, near Takoradi in the Western Region, have been found.
Sources at the Bosomtwe Fishing Harbour confirmed their safe arrival at Ngyiresia, with one of the crew members, a 19-year-old, admitted to a hospital in Takoradi.
The Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) and the Fisheries Enforcement Unit (FEU) of the Fisheries Commission have also confirmed the rescue of the crew.
The distress call was received on Thursday, and the fishermen were found on Friday afternoon. After undergoing medical checks, they were scheduled to return to base.
The owner of the boat explained that the crew had lost contact after running out of fuel, but they were alive when last contacted.
The incident serves as a reminder to fishermen to be cautious during the closed season, and the FEU will continue monitoring the situation.
