GHMediaHubManchester City manager Pep Guardiola emphasized the need for midfielder Jack Grealish (28) to quickly rediscover his form following his return from injury if he wants to regain his place in the starting lineup.
Despite being a pivotal player in City’s successful campaign last season, Grealish has struggled to make an impact this season, managing just three goals in 26 appearances across all competitions. His recent groin injury has sidelined him since the Champions League victory against FC Copenhagen earlier this month, and he was left on the bench for City’s recent 1-0 win over Bournemouth.
Guardiola acknowledged Grealish’s importance to the team, stating, “He is the same player, he has the same manager, and the way we play has not changed. It’s just the way he has performed. That’s the difference.”
The manager expressed hope that Grealish can make a strong return in the final months of the season, emphasizing the midfielder’s special qualities.
However, Guardiola stressed that injured players cannot expect to be eased back into the team and must quickly find their rhythm, whether it be for 20 minutes or the full 90. He highlighted the competitiveness within the squad and the need for players to prove themselves through their performances and training sessions.
City faces Luton Town in the FA Cup fifth round before a crucial league clash against rivals Manchester United, with Guardiola expecting his players, including Grealish, to be at their best for both fixtures.
