GHMediaHubLuka Doncic delivered a standout performance as the Dallas Mavericks edged out the Minnesota Timberwolves 108-105 in the opening game of the NBA’s Western Conference Finals. Doncic, hailing from Slovenia, led all scorers with 33 points, 15 of which came in the decisive final quarter, helping the Mavericks take the early lead in the best-of-seven series.
Kyrie Irving also played a crucial role for Dallas, contributing 30 points, with 24 scored in the first half in Minneapolis. Reflecting on the hard-fought victory, Doncic remarked, “We had to work really hard to get this one. I think we’re known for losing game ones, so we were trying to make a point. But it’s only one and we have three more [wins] to go.”
The final quarter was a tightly contested battle, with both teams exchanging leads several times. Anthony Edwards’ 24-foot three-pointer gave the Timberwolves a 102-98 advantage with just under four minutes remaining. However, the Mavericks responded with eight unanswered points, including a crucial step-back jump shot from Doncic, to regain control and secure the win.
Jaden McDaniels was the top scorer for the Timberwolves with 24 points, while Edwards contributed 19 points. The series continues with game two set to take place on Friday in Minneapolis.
