Nsoatreman GM says playing in Africa is no big deal

Eric Alagidede, General Manager of Nsoatreman FC, the newly crowned champions of the MTN FA Cup, has expressed confidence in his team’s readiness for the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup.

Nsoatreman secured their spot in the Confederation Cup after winning the MTN FA Cup for the first time on Sunday. The team triumphed over Bofoakwa Tano, winning 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in the final held at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon.

Alagidede believes they will draw inspiration from Dreams FC ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup debut.

“It’s a great feeling winning the FA Cup. I’m short of words. God has been good. Africa is not a big deal. We are ready. Dreams FC have shown us that it is possible and I think we will do our best to represent Ghana and the nation well,” Alagidede said.

As winners of this year’s FA Cup, Nsoatreman FC will receive GHC180,000. The club aims to replicate the success of Dreams FC, who reached the semi-finals in their debut campaign.

Nsoatreman hope to learn from Dreams FC

Dreams FC, after winning the 2022/23 FA Cup, started their campaign as underdogs but emerged as dark horses, only stumbling against Egyptian giants Zamalek in the semi-finals. Their achievement marked the first time since 2004 that a Ghanaian side reached the semi-finals of the competition, following the footsteps of Hearts of Oak and Kotoko, who proceeded to the finals.

Nsoatreman, in only their second top-flight season, swiftly won their first major trophy. The club is hopeful of achieving more milestones under the guidance of coach Maxwell Konadu as they prepare for their historic CAF Confederation Cup journey.
