Serbia and Denmark gear up for pivotal Group C clash at EURO 2024

Luka Jovic’s 96th-minute equalizer against Slovenia has given Serbia hope as they prepare to face Denmark in their final group game of EURO 2024. Both teams need a win to guarantee progression, while a draw could leave them both in trouble.

Serbia’s tournament hasn’t gone as planned. They lost to England due to an own goal and struggled to break down Slovenia. With only seven goals in Group C over the first two matchdays, Serbia must create better chances. They attempted 33 crosses against Slovenia, the second-highest in the tournament, with Jovic finally scoring from one.

Aleksandar Mitrovic, one of the top international scorers, has struggled to find the net despite having numerous chances. He has taken seven shots without scoring, missing three big chances against Slovenia. In contrast, Denmark’s Rasmus Hojlund has only managed one shot in two games, reflecting his poor form for both club and country.

Christian Eriksen has been Denmark’s standout player, recording 19 shot involvements (8 shots, 11 chances created) over the first two matchdays. He also contributes defensively, winning possession more than ten times. Denmark’s pressing game has resulted in 19 high turnovers, the second most in the tournament, and they rank fourth in possession with 58.9%. However, they struggle to convert possession into goals, with a low average of 0.078 expected goals per shot.

Historically, Denmark has had the upper hand, winning their last three matches against Serbia. However, Denmark hasn’t won any of their last six major tournament games, and Serbia’s winless streak in such tournaments is at seven. Both teams need a victory on Tuesday to break their bad habits and advance to the next round.
