GHMediaHubBlack Stars defender Jerome Opoku has joined Turkish Super League side Istanbul Basaksehir on a substantive deal after impressing in his loan spell with the club.
The 25 year old English born Ghanaian defender played out his loan deal in Turkey from Portuguese side Arouca in the 2023-2024 season.
After impressing with his play and helping the team qualify to the UEFA Europa Conference League, the club rewarded Opoku with a three year deal.
The club released a statement announcing the deal with the 6 foot 5 inch player who made his Black Stars debut appearance in in 2023.
Opoku’s deal comes on the back of fellow Black Stars defender Denis Odoi signing a two year deal with Belgian Jupiler Pro League side Royal Antwerp. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
“A three year contract was signed with our player using the option of Jerome Opoku, whom we rented from the Portuguese club Arouca at the beginning of the 2023-2024 season with the option to purchase. We wish success to Jerome Opoku, who will continue his career as a valuable member of the Basaksehir family.”
Opoku was part of the Black Stars recent 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mali and Central African Republic (C.A.R) but didn’t feature in either win over Mali and C.A.R.
