Akufo-Addo condemns killing of 90-year-old woman

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has condemned the killing of a 90-year old woman, Akua Denteh, at Kafaba in the East Gonja municipality of the Savannah Region.

The President described the killing as awful and a tragic one which had “disfigured the face of our nation.”

According to President Akufo-Addo, he has tasked the police administration in the region to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book for justice to be served for the deceased family.

Madam Akua Denteh was openly beaten to death last Thursday after she was accused of being a witch.

Speaking at the commissioning of the Yapei Water Supply Project on Monday, the President said “I will make an appropriate contribution to the Akua Denteh Foundation to express my own revulsion at the awful, tragic act that has occurred in this Region.”

“It is vital, as the Regional Minister said, that it should not happen again, and we should all work together to ensure that never again do such acts disfigure the face of our nation. I hope that the quick response of the police will lead to the rapid administration of justice in this unfortunate matter,” he noted.

The Savannah Regional Minister, Salifu Braimah assured the people of the region and the family that tremendous progress has been made towards the apprehension and prosecution of the perpetrators of the inhuman act.

He indicated that the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo had sent a delegation to the family of the late Akua Denteh to comfort them.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) James Oppong-Boanuh has dispatched homicide experts from the National Police Headquarters to the Savannah region to help search for the murderers of Madam Akua Denteh.
