GhMediaHubThe Okyeman Lands Protection Taskforce has handed over nine individuals suspected to be land guards to the Kyebi Divisional Police Command. Led by Okyenhene Akwanserahene, Baffour Asiedu Bekoe, the task force alleges that the arrested individuals had unlawfully occupied a developer’s land in Teacher Mante, located in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region.
On May 30, an exchange of gunfire occurred between the task force and the land guards, leading to the arrest of nine individuals, while others managed to escape. The disputed land, covering 80 acres, was reportedly legally allocated by Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, to Rockstars Company, which is involved in the production of aluminum bowls. Baffour Asiedu Bekoe, the Okyenhene Akwansera chief, confirmed this allocation.
Bekoe expressed surprise at the presence of land guards on the property under the directive of an individual named Fred, stating that this was against the rightful ownership of the land. The Kyebi Police Command has initiated investigations into the matter.
There have been several instances of conflicts over land ownership within the Abuakwa Traditional Council in recent times.
