GhMediaHubThe former Minister was detained, per the OSP, in connection with the alleged theft of substantial sums of money from her residence and other corruption-related offenses.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) said in a statement that was sent to the media in a copy that Cecilia Abena Dapaah had been arrested at 11:55 GMT on July 24 in connection with the alleged theft of large sums of cash and other valuables from her home. Cecilia Abena Dapaah resigned as Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources on July 22, 2023.
On July 22, 2023, Mrs. Dapaah wrote to voluntarily resign from her position as Minister of Sanitation in a letter signed by the minister.
“Therefore, I am resigning because I do not want this matter to preoccupy the government and impede its work at this crucial time,” the letter reads.
“To enable them to establish the facts fully, I intend to cooperate fully with all state agencies.”
The court’s findings that the Minister had kept $1 million, $300,000, and millions of Cedis in her home had caused public outrage.
