GHMediaHubChima Udoye has been crowned the winner of Nigerian Idol Season 9.
After months of intense competition against some of Nigeria’s best performers and vocalists, Udoye emerged victorious at the finale on Sunday night.
The live finale episode started with the top 10 contestants performing John Legend’s “Glory.” This was followed by performances from past winners, including Season 7 winner Progress, who performed with the Bigi Idol winner, and Season 8 winner Victory Gbakara, who sang an original song he wrote before his finale. The excitement continued with guest performances from artists like Chike and Simi, as well as the top three finalists. The night culminated with the announcement of Udoye as the winner.
Known for his onstage charisma and vocal talent, Udoye consistently impressed the judges—9ice, Omawumi, and Ric Hassani—throughout the season. During the finale, Omawumi noted that Udoye had essentially been competing with himself, a testament to his remarkable growth and capabilities on the show.
Specializing in jazz and soul music, Udoye expressed at the beginning of the show his desire to use the Nigerian Idol platform to showcase his vocal prowess and inspire others. Twelve weeks later, his dream became a reality as he was crowned the winner.
Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content & Channels, West Africa at MultiChoice, commended Udoye’s resilience and congratulated him on his achievement during her speech at the finale.
As the winner, Udoye received N30 million, a brand new SUV, a DStv Explora, and a one-year premium subscription. The grand prize also includes a music deal and a music video.
