US-Based Professor Supports Bawumia’s Shrine Visit Amid Political Controversy

Professor Kwabena Ofori-Attah, an Education expert at Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio, USA, has defended Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s visit to a Wulormor Shrine, stating there is nothing inappropriate about it.

In a discussion on Okay FM’s Egyaso Gyaso, Professor Ofori-Attah suggested that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is attacking Dr. Bawumia because the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is currently in a strong position. He emphasized that as Vice President, Dr. Bawumia serves all Ghanaians, and his visit to the shrine is a demonstration of his commitment to inclusive leadership.

“The new tactic of the NDC is to attack the NPP flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia, without cause. They even criticized him for visiting the Ga Wulormor shrine,” Ofori-Attah noted. “If he is the Vice President, he is a Vice President for all. And if he aspires to be President, he should be a President for all.”

Dr. Bawumia’s visit to the shrine, part of his campaign in the Greater Accra Region, sparked debate. While some questioned his alignment with Islamic practices, others praised his demonstration of religious tolerance.
