Mahama ordered my removal after 2014 World cup – Kwasi Appiah claims

Former Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah has alleged that former President John Dramani Mahama caused his removal after Ghana’s poor showing at the World cup in 2014.

According to him, the former communicated his decision through the then President of the FA Kwasi Nnyantakyi.

“Kwesi Nyantakyi called me to his office and informed me that he had been asked by the president of the nation (John Mahama) to relieve me of my duties.

“When decisions about the national team staffing became heavily politicised, it was very clear to me that the political machine was flexing its muscles to make me a scapegoat,” he wrote in his book ‘Leaders Don’t Have to Yell’.

He added: ”The Minister for Youth and Sports, who should bear the ultimate responsibility for the money issue that was at the heart of the Brazil problem, was reassigned to another job in the President’s office but I was rather fired.”

This is the first time the former President has been accused of meddling in football matters. His office has not responded to the allegation.

FIFA statues do not allow governmental influence in football.
