COVID-19: NDC not bothered about job losses, but fake rigging conspiracy – Gabby

Former Executive Director of the Danquah Institute and leading member of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) Gabby Asare Otchere Darko has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress of not being bothered about the economic impact of COVID-19 but elections.

He suggested that the NDC is busy indulging in fake conspiracy accusations over the rigging of elections instead of focusing their attention on the job losses many Ghanaians have suffered due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.

“I’m not sure NDC gets it. Ghanaians are losing their jobs, in hotels, restaurants etc, because of Covid-19. Yet, the NDC thinks what is important is a fake conspiracy to rig the 2020 polls,” Mr. Otchere Darko wrote in a Facebook post seen by

The National Democratic Congress at a press conference on Thursday accused the National Identification Authority, Electoral Commission and the New Patriotic Party are conspiring to rig the upcoming elections, a position that has been rejected by the governing party.

Chairman of the National Democratic Congress(NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo believes the only thing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has wasted energies and wisdom to do since he took over power on January 7, 2017, is how to rig the 2020 elections.

“Upon assumption of office in the year 2017, president Akufo-Addo immediately set in motion his rigging agenda,” he told the media at the party’s headquarters.

According to him, this necessitated the setting up of the National Identification Authority to issue ID cards which is one of the identification cards that will be accepted during the impending compilation of the new voters’ register.

“The NIA was step up with a mandate to issue national ID cards and manage the national identification system as per the national identification act [but] it does appear that the Jean Mensa led EC and NIA are only interested in rigging the 2020 elections for President Nana Akufo-Addo.” He claimed.
