The Bono East Region has become the 15th region in Ghana to record a case of the deadly coronavirus disease, an official of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has said.
Details are yet to be gathered, the Head of Public Health at GHS, Dr Badu Sarkodie, indicated.
“The [details] will be brought up based on information that we further pick from the region and then the affected district.”
Dr Sarkodie said the case was confirmed in the early hours of Thursday, May 28.
By this development, the Ahafo Region remains the only region without a case of the virus.
The Greater Accra Region is the hardest hit region with 5,148 cases since Thursday, March 12 when the first two cases in the country were recorded.
Ashanti Region follows with 1,099 cases. Cases are said to be reducing in that region.
The Central Region has overtaken the Western Region, the current hotspot, in third place after 360 cases as of Tuesday, May 26.
The hotspot region has 344 cases.
Eastern Region has 117 cases with the rest of the regions recording cases below 100.
