Forgive my ignorance on Kumerica comment – Oteng apologises

Music producer and CEO of Drum Lyne Music, Wei Ye Oteng has finally apologised to social media fans of  Kumerica saying his comment on the whole thing came because he didn’t understand the real concept well.

Wei Ye Oteng apology comes days after he condemned the new social media trend of Kumerica which has attracted people like Shatta Wale and Reggie Rockstone coming together to rally behind the movement.

In earlier comment on his Facebook page Wei Ye Oteng wrote, “Kumerica has no future. It is dead on arrival because it was never thought through. We could have done it better by projecting us and not confusing ourselves. Confuse boys”.

But speaking on Peace FM on the show “Entertainment Review”, Wei Ye Oteng made a sudden u-turn after meeting the originators of the whole Kumerica trend.

“The picture these young guys are painting and the kind of words they say has convinced me. I now understand that there is a movement that is musically motivated therefore when one say Kumerica, I can also relate it to anything like Twi Pop of Tema, Like Hiplife, I can relate it to anything like Azonto but when you are on the street or social media that is not the idea”. Wei Ye Oteng said on the show monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

According to Tony Dats, Kizzo Drips and Rapper who were on the show as the originators of the Kumerica idea, the whole thing was not directed at changing names of communities in Kumasi as has been portrayed by people on social media. They noted that the idea of Kumerica was to represent the Entertainment Art in Kumasi with communities as to how each communities contribute and not otherwise.

Wei Ye Oteng finally appreciated their effort describing it as sense but stressed that, they still need to be guided to make the movement stronger and more appreciable to attract leadership in the well preserved cultured Akan State of Kumasi.

According to the originators of the movement Kumerica,  the intention of naming Kumasi wasn’t tailored towards changing the city itself but to create names for places where entertainment in Kumasi is vibrant. Simply put, the names represent entertainment hubs in Kumasi.
