Electoral Commission to manually verify 542 persons on election day

The Electoral Commission (EC) has explained that the total number of persons who will vote via manual verification in the December 7 General Election is 542.
This is because even though they registered, their names were not captured in the final register.

Consequently, the EC has provided a “Missing Names List” which will be made available at various polling stations to enable them to vote.

Their names, together with their Form One As and Cs, would be made available at the polling stations where they registered.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, November 30, the EC Chairperson, Mrs Jean Mensa said the names were identified after a reconciliation of the number of persons who actually registered with the number of persons on the voters register.

She explained that, “Following the exhibition exercise, the Commission took a thorough review and analysis of the register and took steps to reconcile the number of persons who actually registered with the number of persons on the voters register.

“We relied on the end of day reports generated by the biometric voter registration kits and compared the actual number of registrants on the end of day reports in the final provisional register at the time. At the end of the day, it was revealed that 542 persons had been registered but were not captured in the register.”

She added that “In our determination to ensure that every eligible person who registered is given the opportunity to exercise his or her franchise on election day, the names of these persons have been published on the website and at the district offices throughout the country.

“They will be presented with the opportunity to vote and they will be manually verified. The commission will send their details on the missing names list and their Form One As and Form One Cs to the polling stations where they registered and they will be granted the opportunity to vote.”

Mrs Mensah thus apologised to the affected persons “for the inconveniences caused”, adding, “we wish to assure them that they will be provided with the opportunity to vote.”

“They will be manually verified, and the Commission will send their details and Form 1A and 1C’s to the Polling Stations where they registered. They will not be denied their right to vote,” she stressed.
