UNICEF Ghana commends President Akufo-Addo for taking COVID-19 vaccine publicly

UNICEF Ghana has praised President Nana Akufo-Addo for leading by example for taking the COVID-19 vaccine publicly so as to engender trust in the efficacy of the vaccine.

The message, posted on social media, came minutes after President Akufo-Addo and his wife, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, took the vaccine at the 37 Military Hospital, Accra

“We commend H.E. Nana Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of #Ghana and H.E. the First Lady, Madam Rebecca Akufo-Addo, for leading by example and receiving the #COVID19 vaccine,” the statement said in part.

“It is important that I set the example to show you that the vaccine is safe by being the first person to receive it so that everyone in Ghana can feel comfortable about taking the vaccine. It is important that everyone is vaccinated,” the President had said after receiving his shot.

Meanwhile, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife, Samira Bawumia, have also taken their shots.

Their actions are to dispel rumours and conspiracy theories that the vaccine is unsafe and meant to accomplish other goals either than serve as inoculation against COVID-19.

A nationwide vaccination exercise, starting with persons most exposed to the virus, will start tomorrow.
