GHMediaHubEmilio Nsue, the recipient of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Golden Boot award, has launched a scathing attack on the Equatoguinean Football Federation for its mishandling of the national men’s football team’s campaign during the tournament held in Cote D’Ivoire.
Despite Equatorial Guinea’s elimination from the competition at the round of 16 stage by Guinea, Nsue emerged as the top goal scorer, netting five goals in four games, including a missed penalty kick in the match against Guinea.
Taking to Instagram live, the Intercity FC player aired a series of grievances against his country’s football federation, highlighting various instances of mismanagement and misconduct.
Nsue revealed that the players were not provided with proper outfits before their match against Nigeria and that the equipment used by the national team was funded by the players themselves, rather than the Federation.
Furthermore, Nsue accused the Federation of threatening certain local players and extorting money from them, leading to his suspension from the national team alongside teammate Edu Salvador.
He criticized the Federation’s decision to introduce Brazilian players into the team and condemned their alleged corruption, claiming that they had misappropriated funds and neglected the welfare of the national team.
Nsue expressed disappointment with the lack of recognition and support from his country, stating that he received congratulations for his Golden Boot award from Ivorian authorities but not from his own nation.
In conclusion, Nsue condemned the Federation’s actions as “cancerous and corrupt,” accusing them of prioritizing personal gain over the well-being of the national team and its players.
