Arteta Attributes Arsenal’s Porto Defeat to Lack of Champions League Experience

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta attributed their late defeat to Porto in the Champions League to a lack of experience in Europe’s top club competition. Despite dominating possession, Arsenal failed to register a shot on target, ultimately succumbing to Galeno’s 94th-minute winner.

Arteta acknowledged the team’s lack of purpose, particularly in the first half, and emphasized the need for more aggression and forward play to threaten Porto’s defense. He expressed disappointment in the team’s inability to capitalize on their dominance but highlighted the learning opportunity from the match.

Regarding Arsenal’s lack of Champions League experience, Arteta noted that it may have influenced the late goal conceded but emphasized that overall, the team’s performance was commendable for their first knockout game under his management.

Looking ahead, Arteta remains focused on the team’s upcoming Premier League fixture against Newcastle and the return leg against Porto at the Emirates on March 12.
