The ideal presidential term for Ghana is five years – Ex. President J.A Kuffuor

These comments were delivered by the former president on Monday in Accra at a session for the Constitutional Review. He stated, “Ghana as a nation is seeking to bring about a better transition to its democratic credential. The Prime Minister system was the most effective method for passing laws. ”

He claims that while the 1992 Constitution has done the people well since its inception, it has become necessary in light of alleged problems with several of its sections that are thought to be impeding Ghana’s democracy’s development. “From colonialization to independence, we don’t examine the language the constitution was written,” he said, urging the work of the accord to take the cultural past of the populace into account.

Adding that “Democracy should not be conducted from fear and instead should be free and we need an advisory council,” the former president gave advice to political parties, civil society organizations, the Council of States, the Executive, Judiciary, and the Legislature to assist improve the nation. He said that raising the pay for government employees and other officeholders will lessen corruption.

He declared, “Corruption will decrease if the government raises the pay of public employees and any other government office holders. In order to avoid electing ineffective leaders who could harm Ghana’s democracy, the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, said the subject of monetization in national politics needs to be revisited.

He contends that the 1992 Ghanaian Constitution, which grants the President of the Republic significant authority to appoint numerous individuals to various organizations, needs to be reconsidered. He argued that Ghana should “implement the Westminster system, cut the number of ministries, and review the criteria for electing presidential candidates.” In order for the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) to function successfully and efficiently, he added, it should be well-structured.
