The National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ghana’s largest opposition party, has called for a bipartisan inquiry into a report on illegal mining by Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng.
The report, which was leaked last week, accuses many past and present government officials of supporting or interfering with the fight against illegal mining.
Among those mentioned are Minister of Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, former Senior Minister Yaw Osafo-Mafo, and former New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawmaker Joseph Albert Quarm.
The NDC says it will submit a formal request to the Clerk of Parliament and the Office of the Special Prosecutor to initiate investigations.
The presidency has denied the allegations and claimed that the report is “a catalogue of personal grievances” that was not given to Cabinet.
