C/R: NDC vehicle destroyed. 3 suspects arrested.

Following the arrest of three of his supporters in the Central Region of Ghana, former Deputy Information Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu has come under scrutiny.

The members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who support Kwakye Ofosu in his bid to represent the party in the constituency, engaged in disruptive behavior during the campaign of his main contender, Prof. Nana Ama Brown Klutse, in the upcoming NDC parliamentary primaries.

On Friday, May 3, 2023, the supporters went on a rampage and damaged the campaign vehicle of Prof. Klutse, who is also a lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, during her campaign in Moree. They threw stones and caused damage to the vehicle’s windscreen and other parts.

Reports indicate that three of the supporters involved in the incident were arrested by the police for investigation but were later granted bail.

The supporters acted unlawfully based on misinformation that the National Organiser of the NDC, Joseph Yamin, was present in the constituency to campaign for Prof. Klutse. They alleged that Mr. Yamin visited the area to support Prof. Klutse, who had lost to Kwakye Ofosu in the previous NDC parliamentary primary.

However, it was confirmed that Mr. Yamin was not in Moree at the time of the incident. He stated that he was not even in the Central Region at the time and had not visited the region for several weeks.

Mr. Yamin expressed surprise at the reports and denied any involvement in the incident. He emphasized that he always informs regional executives of his presence before any visit.

Following the incident, Mr. Yamin received calls from NDC executives in the Central Region regarding the attack and his alleged involvement, which he vehemently denied. He questioned how he could be named as part of the confusion when he was not even in the region and had no connection to the incident.
