Hatayspor pays tribute to Christian Atsu in emotional friendly.

Hatayspor paid moving tribute to late star Christian Atsu during their first match following the terrible earthquake in February.

Tragically, the earthquake claimed the lives of the Ghanaian winger and several other people, including Hatayspor Technical Director Taner Savut.

Hatayspor honored Atsu with a moving tribute by putting his jersey on display before their Sunday preseason match against Hull City. A moment of silence was also observed.

The act was a moving remembrance of the talented athlete who, before his untimely death, had contributed to the team’s success. Atsu and Taner Savut, whose presence was felt through the memories they left behind, were honored during the friendly game.

Hatayspor’s penultimate game before the earthquake on February 6 saw Atsu score the game-winning goal, leaving a lasting impression on the field for Hatayspor. Later, the body of the 31-year-old was found and brought to Ghana for his ultimate burial, giving his family and loved ones closure.

Atsu played for many teams, including Porto, Chelsea, Newcastle United, Everton, AFC Bournemouth, and Al Raed. Atsu led Ghana to a second-place finish at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea behind eventual champions Ivory Coast with nine goals in 65 matches. He was awarded the tournament’s best player.
