Kotoko to form women’s, other sport teams

The Life Patron and Owner of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has admonished the club’s newly-formed Board of Directors to effect plans in establishing a women’s team and other sports clubs.

This directive was read by the Manhyia Palace’s Chief of Staff, Kofi Badu, on behalf of the Asantehene at the inauguration of the Dr Kwame Kyei-led Board at the Sports Hotel in Kumasi.

“Kotoko has the task now of responding to FIFA’s directive to open its doors to women’s football, also to expand beyond football to embrace other sports such as boxing, athletics, tennis, table tennis, always bearing in mind sports that offer our young men and women the possibilities for professional careers,” Kofi Badu said.

He also implored the new board to observe best corporate practices as the Porcupine Warriors adopt modern ways of management.

“Kotoko is no longer a social club. It is a corporate entity obliged to operate within the laws and in accordance with the best corporate governance. As a sporting body also, it is obliged to operate in compliance with the regulation and laws of FIFA, CAF, the Ghana Football Association, the National Sports Authority and all such sporting bodies as it may engage with overtime,” he stated.

The Board comprises Mr Joseph Yaw Adu, Mr Jude Arthur, Mr Kwamina Ansah, Mr Kwadwo Boateng Genfi and Mrs Evelyn Nsiah Asare.

Others are Baffour Kwame Kusi, Otumfuo’s Ankobeahene, Alhaji Abu Lamin, and Mr Kwasi Osei Ofori.
