Parliament’ll pass private members bill seeking to criminalise LGBTQ+ in Ghana – Bagbin

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has assured that Parliament will work assiduously to pass a private members bill seeking to criminalise the activities of LGBTQ+ persons in Ghana by end of the year.

An eight-member bipartisan committee of lawmakers, led by Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George today, Tuesday, 29 June 2021 presented the bill to the Speaker which aside seeking to criminalize activities of such persons in Ghana also seeks to ban the airing of same on media platforms among other things.

In attendance were members of the clergy, chiefs, other religious groups and opinion leaders who have vowed to speak with a voice against the act.

Presenting the bill Mr George expressed confidence that it will become a reference for other African countries.

In his acceptance speech Br Bagbin while assuring the bill will be passed once it’s laid on the floor also   warned they will not kowtow to pressure from higher forces.
