Snake on plane: Pilot makes a necessary stop to hunt it

Pilot Rudolf Erasmus had a frightening experience when he discovered a dangerous Cape cobra on board his plane during a routine flight from Worcester to Nelspruit with four passengers.

He noticed the snake hiding under his seat after feeling a strange sensation on his body. Erasmus remained calm and declared an emergency with Johannesburg.

After the aircraft landed safely in Welkom, Erasmus and his passengers left the plane without causing panic. According to aviation specialist Brian Emmenis, Erasmus displayed great skill in handling the situation.

Despite efforts to find the snake, it could not be located and the passengers chose to drive back. Erasmus will fly the plane out on Wednesday, hoping the snake has left on its own.

The incident was unprecedented and not something he had been trained to handle.
