GHMediaHubGhanaian-English midfielder Kobbie Mainoo remains undecided about his international allegiance, keeping his options open to play for either Ghana or England at the senior level. This information was reported by Matt Hughes for the British media outlet Daily Mail, amidst significant interest in the Manchester United prodigy.
According to Hughes, the 18-year-old Mainoo is yet to commit to a decision until he is in contention for “competitive caps” at the international level. While Mainoo is eligible to represent Ghana through his parents, being born in Stockport, England, makes him eligible to play for England, despite previously featuring for England’s Under 17 and Under 19 teams.
Mainoo’s impressive performances for Manchester United have caught the attention of England manager Gareth Southgate, who reportedly intends to include him in upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Bosnia and Herzegovina to dissuade interest from Ghana.
Meanwhile, Randy Abbey, a member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council, has expressed the association’s interest in collaborating with talents like Mainoo in the future.
Mainoo recently made his senior debut goal for Manchester United in a 4-2 FA Cup victory over Newport County and followed it up with a crucial winner in a 4-3 triumph against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
