GHMediaHubThe Williams brothers played pivotal roles as Athletic Club secured a commanding 3-0 victory in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final against Atlético Madrid, setting up a showdown with RCD Mallorca in the final.
Building on their 1-0 win at the Wanda Metropolitano, Athletic wasted no time in extending their aggregate lead, with Nico Williams delivering a lofted cross for his brother Iñaki Williams to volley home after just 13 minutes, igniting jubilant celebrations at San Mamés.
The sibling duo showcased their telepathic connection once more before halftime, as Iñaki set up Nico to clinically finish past Jan Oblak, effectively sealing Atleti’s fate in the cup competition.
Despite an extended halftime break due to a medical emergency in the crowd, Athletic remained in control, with Oihan Sancet and Gorka Guruzeta adding to their tally in the second half. Goalkeeper Julen Agirrezabala played his part with key saves to preserve Athletic’s fifth clean sheet in the Copa del Rey campaign.
While Atlético Madrid’s cup aspirations came to an end, Athletic Club moved one step closer to lifting the Copa del Rey trophy for the first time in four decades, fueled by the dynamic performances of the Williams brothers.
