GHMediaHubBarcelona missed a chance to climb to second place in LaLiga and narrow the gap with leaders Real Madrid after a goalless draw against Athletic Club. Despite both teams’ caliber, the first half lacked quality, with the best chance coming from Joao Cancelo’s long-range effort, cleared off the line by Unai Simon. Athletic’s only shot on target was from Alex Berenguer, comfortably saved by Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
Barcelona suffered setbacks with Frenkie de Jong and Pedri exiting due to injury in the first half. The hosts dominated the start of the second half, with Inaki Williams and Robert Lewandowski missing opportunities. Dani Garcia had a late chance for Athletic but headed wide. The draw extends Athletic’s winless streak against Barcelona to nine matches. While the result keeps them in contention for a top-four finish, it’s seen as a missed opportunity for Barcelona, especially with other title contenders dropping points.
