MD of Absa Bank recognized as CEO of the year

Abena Osei-Poku, the Managing Director of Absa Bank, has been recognized as the CEO of the Year in the banking sector at the CEO Summit 2023. The summit is a gathering of industry leaders, corporate executives, government officials, and key stakeholders, providing a platform for networking, idea-sharing, and discussing emerging trends.

Abena Osei-Poku was praised for her exceptional leadership, innovation, and creativity in the transformation of Absa Bank. Under her guidance, Absa successfully transitioned from the Barclays brand to Absa in Ghana.

The bank’s commitment to supporting real sector growth and implementing a digitally-enabled strategy has fostered strong relationships with clients, customers, and stakeholders.

Notably, Absa Bank launched an unprecedented campaign for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Ghana, offering loans at a significantly lower interest rate of 10% per annum.

This initiative targets women-owned businesses, youth entrepreneurs, and enterprises in the agriculture and fintech sectors, providing much-needed support during challenging economic conditions where lending rates are high.

Abena’s leadership has also seen Absa Bank increase its commitment to community development, focusing on initiatives in education, financial inclusion, and environmental conservation.

In response to the recognition, Abena expressed gratitude to the bank’s clients, stakeholders, and colleagues for their unwavering support. She emphasized that the bank’s strategy remains focused on creating value for customers, empowering them, and leveraging cutting-edge digital technology to enhance convenience.

Absa Bank, which has been operating in Ghana for over a century, is regarded as a systemically important institution in the country’s economy. The bank’s brand purpose centers around empowering Africa’s future, one story at a time, reflecting its dedication to driving positive change and progress.
