GhMediaHubA 25-year-old unemployed woman named Queenstabel Mintah, also known as Ohemaa, has been sentenced to two months in prison by the Tarkwa District Court for her involvement in the theft of GH¢4,600 from a small-scale miner.
The presiding judge, Charles Owusu Ansah, also ordered her to pay a fine of GH¢1,080. In the event of defaulting on the fine, she would serve an additional four months in prison. Queenstabel pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted based on her own admission.
According to Police Sergeant Douglas Addai, the prosecutor, the incident took place on November 7, 2022, at around 4:30 am near the Tarkwa Railway station. Queenstabel, along with her accomplice Maame Yaa (who is currently at large), attacked the complainant, Eric Ankomah, and stole GH¢4,600 from him. After committing the theft, both women fled the scene and went into hiding.
The complainant reported the incident to the Tarkwa Police, and on April 11, 2023, he spotted Queenstabel in the Tarkwa Township. With the assistance of the police, she was arrested. Efforts are underway to apprehend Queenstabel’s accomplice, Maame Yaa.
