GHMediaHubArmed assailants struck fear and devastation across Katsina State on Wednesday night and Thursday morning, launching attacks on a mosque, residences, and leaving a tragic aftermath of death and abductions.
The most harrowing incident unfolded during Ishai prayer in Yargoje village, Kankara Local Government Area, where the assailants brazenly stormed the mosque and unleashed a barrage of bullets on worshippers.
Eyewitnesses recounted the horrifying scene, describing how the attackers callously opened fire, resulting in the immediate loss of three lives and leaving four others gravely injured. The wounded individuals are currently receiving medical care at a hospital in Kankara. Additionally, the assailants abducted a man and two women from the village, adding to the distress of the community.
In another terrifying assault around 2:30 am on Thursday, the gunmen targeted the residence of Sani Maikifi, a vigilant member in Ungwar Tudun Boka, Kankara. Despite Maikifi’s narrow escape, his family bore the brunt of the attackers’ brutality, with his wife and son abducted in his stead. Sources familiar with the situation revealed that the assailants had been relentlessly pursuing Maikifi for some time, indicating a targeted and premeditated attack.
Furthermore, armed men descended upon Dangani village in Musawa LGA around 11:30 pm on Wednesday, instilling panic and chaos as they fired gunshots indiscriminately. Reports suggest that the attackers specifically targeted a wealthy visitor from the south who was present to offer condolences to a grieving family. The assailants seized an undisclosed number of residents before fleeing the scene.
Despite the widespread terror and unrest caused by these attacks, the police authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incidents, leaving the affected communities anxiously awaiting justice and security measures.
