This is a tragic event that occurred in Belgrade, Serbia on May 4, 2023. A 13-year-old student at Vladislav Ribnikar Elementary School opened fire just after lessons began, killing eight children and a security guard, and seriously injuring several others.
The boy reportedly sketched out the attack in advance on crumpled pieces of paper. He called police himself after the shootings, and was later arrested in the schoolyard.
The alleged shooter was filmed being taken from the school in handcuffs, wearing a jacket over his head and blue, skinny jeans. According to the Serbian Interior Minister, the boy brought two guns from home, one of which was a 9mm pistol, as well as four Molotov cocktails.
The shooting was premeditated, and officials displayed sheets of paper that allegedly showed the suspect’s plans for the attack. Parents struggled to come to terms with the shooting, with one father recounting a chaotic morning.
The interior ministry said in a statement that all available police patrols were dispatched to the scene immediately after being told of the incident at 8.40 a.m. local time.
